AWESOME Results

I searched and tried several products hoping to achieve what this product finally did. My daughter wanted a complete re-model for her bathroom and this wall texture was the final touch. Patience, a sea sponge, and a coat of paint and the results are outstanding. Great for problem walls too. covers imperfections!
works well, instructions really lacking

Bought to do small bath. It went on ok, there is a learning curve - especially if it is your first time. Although the cans are much easier to use, the mix is more economical in the end. We did finally start to get the hang of it toward the end of the small room - doing ceiling and walls in tiny bathroom. Instructions are lacking....not clear about how much to use on rooms <600 sq ft. Really difficult if you are not spraying large areas. Recommend to the company they include instructions for mixing for smaller areas (i.e., 4 c mix/200 sq ft). Also, a guide on set up/dry time & time before painting? We will, however, use it again.

I bought a couple of boxes for my remodel and it was easy to use and had good results for my first time but whan I needed some more no one local was stocking it so I had to go to the factroy
Decent product

I agree with the other reviewer/comments, the instructions on this box leave a lot to be desired. However, I got pretty good results using this product and their texture gun... enough that I purchased this product again for use elsewhere in the house. It looks pretty good overall!
Take care of the instructions

Make sure you mix the product in the gal paint can well. Let settle for one hour before using and then mix again. I failed to do this the first time and the texture was only in 1/2 the paint - had to purchase another box to finish job. Oh and remove one pint from the can to fit the power.
Instructions were so lacking, I returned it.

I bought this product to put orange peel texture on a fairly large area. The online instructions say "Using different mixing ratios, this product can be applied in finishes ranging from orange peel/splatter to full-coverage, decorative textures.". The instructions in the box only mention one ratio. The "Click here for how-to instructions" on the Homax website comes back with an "Internal Error". I even wasted time looking for tips from individuals on how to mix this product with no results. Since I did not want to waste time and money conducting experiments to find the right ratio for orange peel; I just flicked joint compound on my wall, using a brush. I will return this product to the store. It is a shame because this product could have saved me a lot of time. If Homax continues to ignore complaints about the instructions, I will ignore their products.
Hard to use

No well written instruction of proper mixtures. Had to only do a small wall and seemed like I used most of the box to get any consistency to apply.

  • Roller/Trowel-on Application: Up to 400 sq. ft. per box

Directions

Surface Preparation

Surface should be sound, clean, dry and free of dust and oil. Temperature should be maintained at 55° F, 13° C) or higher throughout the finishing process.

  • Prime new drywall surfaces using a good quality drywall primer.
  • Glossy or painted surfaces should be sanded to a dull finish.
  • Metal surfaces should be prepared with a rust-inhibitive primer.
  • New concrete should be aged 60 days, top coated with joint compound, sanded, and primed.

Mixing

Spray-On Application

Pour 1 ½ gallon (5.6 L) of water into a clean 5-gallon bucket. Slowly add texture and mix thoroughly (drill-type mixer is recommended). Allow material to soak for 15 minutes. Remix texture before use, adding more water if thinning is desired. Test on scrap drywall to ensure that consistency is adequate for application method and desired pattern. In general, mixture should be slightly thinner when spraying a finer pattern like orange peel, and thicker to achieve a heavier splatter or knockdown effect.

Roller or Trowel: Pour 1 gallon (3.8 L) of water into a clean 5-gallon bucket. Slowly add texture and mix thoroughly (drill-type mixer is recommended). Allow material to soak for 15 minutes. Remix texture before use, adding more water if thinning is desired. Test on scrap drywall to ensure that consistency is adequate for application method and desired pattern.

Application: Before applying, mask off floors, windows and doors to protect from overspray.

Spray-On: Use equipment such as Homax Manual Spray Texture Gun or compressor-operated Pneumatic II Texture Gun & Hopper. Most standard hopper-type applicator guns may be used. See sprayer instruction manual for details on achieving texture finishes.

Roller or Trowel: Apply uniformly (approx. 1/16” thick) using a texture or paint roller for a stipple effect. To achieve patterns using a brush, comb, putty knife, whisk broom, sponge, etc., first trowel on a smooth, even coat of texture, then apply desired pattern, working in sections. A spray mist of water can be used to extend working time. Use a paint brush in corners where a roller or trowel won’t reach.

When application is complete, ensure adequate ventilation by opening doors and windows to promote drying. Allow texture to dry 24 hours before painting.

Clean Up: Use warm water to clean up any overspray or spills while texture is still wet. Wipe down or rinse equipment with a cloth after use. Store dry excess texture material in a tightly closed bag in a dry place.

CAUTION: Contains Calcium Carbonate, Mica, Starch, Titanium Dioxide and Quartz. Use with adequate ventilation during mixing and spray application. Do not breathe dust or spray mist. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wear safety glasses or goggles and gloves. If properly used, a respirator may offer additional protection. Follow respirator manufacturer’s directions for proper use. Wash hands after using.

First Aid: In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention. If on skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, get medical attention immediately. In case of respiratory difficulty, move to fresh air and get medical attention.
