Directions

Surface Preparation

Surface should be sound, clean, dry and free of dust and oil. Temperature should be maintained at 55° F, 13° C) or higher throughout the finishing process.

  • Prime new drywall surfaces using a good quality drywall primer.
  • Glossy or painted surfaces should be sanded to a dull finish.
  • Metal surfaces should be prepared with a rust-inhibitive primer.
  • New concrete should be aged 60 days, top coated with joint compound, sanded, and primed.

Mixing

Spray-On Application

Pour 1 ½ gallon (5.6 L) of water into a clean 5-gallon bucket. Slowly add texture and mix thoroughly (drill-type mixer is recommended). Allow material to soak for 15 minutes. Remix texture before use, adding more water if thinning is desired. Test on scrap drywall to ensure that consistency is adequate for application method and desired pattern. In general, mixture should be slightly thinner when spraying a finer pattern like orange peel, and thicker to achieve a heavier splatter or knockdown effect.

Roller or Trowel: Pour 1 gallon (3.8 L) of water into a clean 5-gallon bucket. Slowly add texture and mix thoroughly (drill-type mixer is recommended). Allow material to soak for 15 minutes. Remix texture before use, adding more water if thinning is desired. Test on scrap drywall to ensure that consistency is adequate for application method and desired pattern.

Application: Before applying, mask off floors, windows and doors to protect from overspray.

Spray-On: Use equipment such as Homax Manual Spray Texture Gun or compressor-operated Pneumatic II Texture Gun & Hopper. Most standard hopper-type applicator guns may be used. See sprayer instruction manual for details on achieving texture finishes.

Roller or Trowel: Apply uniformly (approx. 1/16” thick) using a texture or paint roller for a stipple effect. To achieve patterns using a brush, comb, putty knife, whisk broom, sponge, etc., first trowel on a smooth, even coat of texture, then apply desired pattern, working in sections. A spray mist of water can be used to extend working time. Use a paint brush in corners where a roller or trowel won’t reach.

When application is complete, ensure adequate ventilation by opening doors and windows to promote drying. Allow texture to dry 24 hours before painting.

Clean Up: Use warm water to clean up any overspray or spills while texture is still wet. Wipe down or rinse equipment with a cloth after use. Store dry excess texture material in a tightly closed bag in a dry place.

CAUTION: Contains Calcium Carbonate, Mica, Starch, Titanium Dioxide and Quartz. Use with adequate ventilation during mixing and spray application. Do not breathe dust or spray mist. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wear safety glasses or goggles and gloves. If properly used, a respirator may offer additional protection. Follow respirator manufacturer’s directions for proper use. Wash hands after using.

First Aid: In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention. If on skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, get medical attention immediately. In case of respiratory difficulty, move to fresh air and get medical attention.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
