The Homax® Popcorn Ceiling Scraper provides a fast and easy way to scrape away unwanted texture while helping you contain the mess.

1. Mask the entire area using painter's tape as an outline so as not to disturb the surrounding trim or paint.

2.  Attach the bag to your scraper.3. Start scraping using long, smooth strokes and applying even pressure across the ceiling. The texture will fall into the plastic bag for easy disposal. Continue along the entire surface of the ceiling. Within minutes the unsightly popcorn is gone.

4. When the ceiling is complete, be sure to remove any remaining texture residue, sand smooth if needed and apply a primer coat prior to painting or applying a new wall texture. The Homax aerosol Orange Peel & Knockdown Ceiling Texture is a fast and easy way to apply a subtle texture to your ceiling once the texture is removed. It also helps to hide minor surface imperfections that may be more visible if the ceiling is simply painted smooth.

WARNING: If your ceiling texture was applied before 1979, do not attempt to remove it without having it tested for asbestos content. Asbestos fibers, when inhaled, can cause serious health problems including cancer. Prior to the 1980’s, asbestos was used in thousands of different construction materials and manufactured products, including acoustic (popcorn) ceiling textures. Contact the Environmental Protection Agency for more information or have it tested by a professional testing company.
