Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the Safety Tab for?
- A: The safety tab is designed to help prevent discharging in the store. It is simply twisted off by the end user before use.
Q: What if my can doesn’t have a safety tab?
- A: Most likely this means that someone has torn it off already. No worries. The can should still spray just fine.
Q: Is the dial set at a certain adjustment when the consumer buys the product?
- A: The nozzle is applied at manufacturing set all the way to the left, or at a coarse setting on all 20 oz. cans, and straight up “medium” on all 10 oz. cans. They are different only due to capping issues.
Q: How many patterns does the New Adjustable Nozzle Spray?
- A: We feel the new nozzle applies 5 distinguishable patterns, ranging from fine orange peel to heavy splatter. However, you can even spray a finer fine by running the can under warm water and coarser coarse by running the can under cold water.
Q: How do I clean out the nozzle after use?
- A: Simply turn the can upside down and spray until material no longer discharges. The nozzle will be clear and ready to spray the next time you need to use the product.
Q: What if the nozzle comes off the cradle?
- A: Simply place the “dial” of the nozzle assembly back into the groove of the base and apply slight pressure to securely seat the stem into the hole. Be careful not to damage the stem.
Q: Can I heat or cool the can to get a finer or heavier pattern?
- A: Yes. Heating up the can in warm water will enhance the propellant and spray a finer texture, and a colder can will exhibit the opposite effect—a coarser spray.
Q: What if my can doesn’t spray at all?
- A: Be sure can is shaken very well—until ball rattles. Sometimes the can won’t spray if valve swell has occurred at the nozzle stem. Try to remove the nozzle, then replace and try again.
Q: Having trouble getting a fine pattern at the far clockwise setting. What can I do?
- A: Try to heat the can under running water or simply move the dial up a few notches.
Q: My can sprayed out a “blob” of texture when I first depressed the nozzle.
- A: Sometimes this occurs when the can is not shaken well enough. Material gets stuck in the dip tube during filling and sits there until discharged. After shaking, this should clear.
Q: My can sprays out in a stream, and doesn’t atomize like it should.
- A: Try heating it up by running it under warm water. It might be too cool to atomize.
Q: Why does the water-base now dry faster, and have more coverage?
- A:We improved the water-base formula at the same time we went to the new nozzle, so you not only get the new nozzle benefits, you now get the added benefit of a faster drying, water-base material that offers as much coverage as the oil-base product.
Q: How much do I need to shake the can?
- A: It is important to shake the can very well until you hear the ball rattle.
Q: The stem of my nozzle looks bent or deformed, and I can’t get it back in the can.
- A: It may have been damaged when it was inserted in the can. You may need a new nozzle stem. Please report any of these issues to Homax Customer Service.
Q: My can will not spray at all.
- A: Try shaking well or heating up. If can still does not spray, please report to Customer Service.
Q: The texture came out very thick and in a “snake-like” stream.
- A:Try shaking well or heating up. If can still does not spray correctly, please report to Customer Service.
Q: Can you change the texture pattern back to heavy after BEING set to fine?
- A: Yes, with ease. You can create any texture pattern until the can is empty.
Q: Can I remove the new nozzle and use the old regular spray button and straw combo?
- A: Yes, you can.
