Instructions
Acousti-Tex is designed to be mixed with paint and applied with a roller. The surface to be textured should be clean, dry and prepared as you would for painting. Glossy surfaces should be dulled with sandpaper and any holes or cracks repaired. Stains should be treated with a sealer. If priming, use the paint manufacturer’s recommendations for either oil or later based primer. Also, when using Acousti-Tex, prime the ceiling white.
Mixing Instructions:
- In a large separate container, mix one bag of mixture with one gallon of paint. Add texture gradually, while stirring, to prevent clumping.
- Cover and allow material to sit 30 minutes prior to applying.
- Stir before applying, and occasionally during application to keep texture suspended in paint. The dry texture ingredients in the bags tend to separate. If using more or less than an entire bag, it is important to empty entire contents of bag into a separate container and mix materials thoroughly before adding desired amount to the paint. This ensures a well-balanced ratio of texture powder and perlite aggregate. For a heavier texture, more Acousti-Tex can be added to your paint.
Application Instructions:
- Pour paint and texture mixture into a paint tray.
- Heavily load a 1/2” nap roller with a scooping motion.
- Roll out texture onto surface using long, even strokes. Use light pressure and a cross-rolling pattern.
- After surface is partially dry, a second coat can be applied to enhance and even out the texture.
- For a heavier finish, apply a second coat after surfaces becomes sticky (5-15 minutes).
Helpful Hints:
Avoid excessive roll out in paint tray.
Use light pressure when rolling on surface.
Acousti-Tex should be used as a final coat. For best results, do not add to primer.
For a heavier texture, add more Acousti-Tex to your paint.
Tinting primer may reduce the need for a second coat.
