Frequently Asked Questions
Coverage:
One gallon covers 100-300 square feet depending on the wood species, porosity of wood, and method of application.
How can I clean up the product?
Cleans up with soap and water.
Does Copper Brown require diluting?
No dilution before use.
How do I store this product?
Store in secure, well-ventilated area protected from extreme temperatures. Do not transfer to unmarked containers. Keep container closed when not in use.
How do I dispose of the container?
Triple rinse (or equivalent). Then offer for recycling or reconditioning, or puncture and dispose in a sanitary landfill, or by other procedure approved by state and local authorities.
Can Copper Brown be used in greenhouses?
Since Copper Brown has a very low phytotoxicity, it can be used to treat wood for greenhouses, nursery flats, etc.
Can Copper Brown be used on the outside of a birdhouse or bird feeder?
It is fine on the outside of a birdhouse as long as it is fully absorbed and dry. If it is applied to a feeder, surface application should not include any surface on which the birds will ingest food. Have the consumer replace any wood that the feed may be on, (they shouldn't have to do this IF it is on the outside). They can apply a clear coat on the outside, for exterior wood, like a varnish.
Is it a problem to transfer the Copper Brown to another container for easier application?
Transferring to a larger container is generally not a problem. However, when you transfer, use, and re-use, you are contaminating the container you are transferring to, and Copper Brown is evaporating, thereby altering the product composition. The product should only be transferred to a clean container and product may not be re-used after initial use.
Can an oil based stain be applied over the Copper Brown?
No, a stain needs to penetrate and the directions on the stain container will not suggest to apply over a treated surface. A coating can be applied, not a stain.
How long do I wait before painting the surface after using wood preservative?
Treated wood must be thoroughly dry (after solvent has completely evaporated) before application of paint. Usually 24 to 48 hours drying time is required. You would need to prime first. Any oil-based or water-based will work.
Can the Copper Brown be applied in 60 degrees and then the night temp be 50 degrees?
It would as long as the product was dry before it got to 50 degrees.
