How long has it been on the market?

It was on the market before 1993 (for over ten years)

Can Paint Thinner be used to remove Mask & Seal from a wood surface that has three coats of paint over the top?

Yes, it will strip the paint and the Mask & Seal. However, if the substrate is synthetic, or has stain or paint that they don’t want removed, Paint Thinner should not be used, if that does not work you could try some WD40.

Is it water based?

Yes.

The Liquid Mask and Seal has a warning not to apply it to surfaces that are to be stained afterward. What are the likely effects if it is applied, removed, and then the wood surface is stained?

Stain, unlike paint, darkens the grain of the wood, and it is not a surface coating. When the grain is sealed and coated, the stain cannot permeate the grain, and the stain will just float around on the clear coating. If one wants to stain, with the exception of a solid color stain, the Mask and Seal will need to be removed using either Sealer and Adhesive Remover, or Premium Paint and Epoxy Remover.

Can this product be applied to bare wood and removed or is it used on bare wood for sealing purposes?

Mask and Seal can only be removed from smooth or glossy surfaces. It is now a primer. You can paint over it but not stain the wood.

How would you get off of etched glass?

The best way is to use a paint stripper and scrape, but that may damage the glass.

Can you use the product over aluminum without it rusting?

Yes you can.
