Frequently Asked Questions

Coverage?

One quart makes up to 5 quarts when mixed with water.

Use with Tough as Tile?

We do not recommend using a TSP No-Rinse Substitute, especially where there may be calcium or lime deposits on the surface. For example, Jasco’s TSP substitute has been tested, and was found to be effective most of the time, but definitely not as effective as normal strength TSP.

If I am using it to prep a surface for painting, can I just wipe it off, and do I need to prime before painting?

You can just wipe off and you don't need to prime unless the old paint is in bad condition or you are painting light color over dark.

A contractor was wondering about the PH of the TSP No Rinse Sub. He wants to use it to neutralize concrete after using an acid stain indoors. Can it be used to neutralize like regular TSP?

No. The ph is around 6, which is not a neutralizing agent. He can use Baking soda and water, or an ammonia water wash to neutralize.

Which has better etching power-TSP No Rinse Substitute or Prep and Prime? I need to use a lot of the product and want to know which one will etch the best and be the least time consuming on steel window frames.?

Use the TSP No Rinse, because it is concentrated. You can dilute it by half instead of 4-1.

Can I add bleach to the TSP No Rinse to remove mildew?

Adding bleach is not suggested. The best method for removing mildew is to apply bleach and rinse, then use the TSP.

When using TSP No Rinse to degloss, will there be a noticeable change to the surface?

Sometimes. If the surface is still glossy, then you may need to use a stronger solution, leave it on longer, or you may not be wiping with a dry cloth.

Will pure tsp hurt grass? What about if it was diluted?

The full strength TSP should not kill the grass, although if the grass and soil is dry, it may burn it. Water the lawn just prior to using, and follow all directions for dilution. Thoroughly water the grass after cleaning is complete.

I need to know if it will be ok to use on the fiberglass portion of a boat, or if it will eat away at the fiberglass or resin?

It would be fine for this application. Keep in mind that it will clean, and degloss the surface of the old paint and the fiberglass and/or resin. After the surface dries, prime and paint as usual.

Can this product be used safely on vinyl siding?

It may degloss the surface, but will not melt.
