Sourcing Manager
Develops a supply base which is aligned to Homax’s strategic manufacturing and supply requirements. Primary among these requirements are a flexible supply chain capable of meeting Homax’s quality standards while providing a highly competitive price. Works closely with Homax’s Marketing and Product Development teams establishing key relationships leading to early Sourcing input into the product development process. Manages a broad range of commodity and product types, becoming a key source of market information for commodities and products managed. Addresses all aspects of supply management, including procurement support, commodity business plans, market trends assessment, pricing, and product availability. Develops negotiation strategies to create mutually beneficial relationships between the company and its suppliers. Identifies new, high potential suppliers. Creates requests for quotes for needed commodities or products. Drives Homax’s suppliers to meet aggressive cost targets. Works with Director of Sourcing to develop and implement sourcing strategies.
The individual will work within an environment where clear roles and responsibilities between functional work areas are not always clearly defined but serving the customer in a profitable way is the well-understood end goal. This requires the following: Excellent organizational skills and interpersonal communication with the ability to professionally and effectively resolve issues with vendors, customer service, sales, marketing, distribution and IT. Ability to assist or lead special projects within the organization and perform others duties as assigned, especially those with high visibility to senior management that significantly impact the corporation’s performance and/or strategy. Strong influencing skills are also needed to convince senior management the correctness of the strategies he/she proposes. This individual is also expected to use his/her experience and knowledge to develop action plans or identify improvement opportunities without the direct guidance of the Director to whom the Sourcing Manager reports.
Essential Duites & Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a supply base for assigned commodities which meets Homax’s strategic needs. Conduct market quotes designed to ensure that Homax supply base offers a market leading price structure. Conduct assessment of potential supplier’s abilities, including factory and operational capability. Lead negotiations with suppliers yielding benefits for Homax. Provide a balanced and clear assessment to Homax management
- Lead efforts to consolidate supply of acquired companies, leveraging cost, quality and delivery in the most effective way for Homax’s benefit
- Develop strong, professional relationships with key suppliers. Manage communications between Homax and the supply base. Leverage supplier relationships to the greatest benefit of Homax. Maintain the highest ethical standards at all times
- Comprehension of business goals and strategic plans in order to minimize inventory levels while maintaining total customer satisfaction
- Expected to work closely, and effectively communicate, with others throughout Homax to ensure customer needs are met and products are brought to market as quickly as possible. Cultivate Homax culture and values by promoting communication, teamwork, and the respectful treatment of all individuals
- Track expenditures and maintain metrics in order to assist in operational decision making
Technical Skills
- Experience and comfort working with MRP software. JDE Peoplesoft experience a plus
- Proficiencies in MS Office applications
- Sound financial skills needed to track and meet operational metrics
- A passion to work efficiently, continuously improving processes and aiding in the growth of an emerging organization
Eduacation/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Business or Engineering from an accredited, four-year college or university and seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in strategic sourcing or purchasing.
Communication Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common industry related journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, clients, external groups, and/or boards of directors.
Reasoning and/or Critical Thinking Ability
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Work situations are vaguely defined, often unprecedented, and unique in character. Problems are very complex, abstract, conceptual, and long-term in nature. There is a continual requirement for strategic, innovative thought and synthesis of information as it pertains to work situations.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- APICS or C.P.M. certification preferred
- Formal negotiation training preferred
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- This position requires the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment. This person must communicate clearly using the English language to accurately convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone. Vision correctable to 20/40 is required to review written materials
- Occasional exposure to adverse working conditions. Work may be performed in cramped or awkward positions. Occasional exposure to safety hazards, noises, traffic, inclement weather conditions, climbing and/or lifting (30+ lbs.) chemicals and other hazardous materials, and machinery
- Position requires travel to suppliers and other Homax facilities. Travel not to exceed 20% of time
